Woman buys croissant-shaped lamp on Temu - and is baffled at what arrives

A young woman ordered a croissant-shaped lamp online - but was stunned to find an actual croissant in the package which arrived.

The TikToker said "hundreds of ants" were underneath the parcel when she found it beside her front door after a long day at work. It arrived on a particularly hot day and the insects became attracted to the scent of the pastry and had attempted to gnaw their way into the box.

And the woman's suspicions were confirmed after opening the parcel to find a croissant - not a lamp in the shape of the French treat for which she had hoped.

It had been ordered online on Temu, a popular e-commerce website where people can buy and sell products. The woman used it in the hope to find a gift for a friend and so was baffled when the actual foodstuff popped up instead.

"I came home from work after a hot day and there were like, hundreds of ants underneath it. I was like, 'Why the f*** would ants want a fake croissant?' The ants were going in the hole (in the package). So I just poked a bigger hole," the woman said in her TikTok.

She went on to say she even tasted the mystery item - and indeed it was a real croissant. In the TikTok, watched by more than 1.5million people on the social media site. The caption of the video reads: "Pls explain, Temu."

The Mirror has today contacted Temu for comment regarding the croissant debacle, which happened this week. Temu has also come under fire for unsafe products and some that simply aren’t up to par – like the "croissant" lamp.

In February, a warning was issued over "unsafe" electric heaters which were being sold on social media apps like TikTok and Temu. Consumer group Which? found several products which they say could explode, cause electric shocks or start house fires. The watchdog tested eight heaters costing as little as £7.20 and determined six were electrically unsafe.
